Endorsements     Support for Teen Challenge    President Reagan It's my pleasure to share a few moments with you who are friends of the oldest and one of the most effective ongoing programs of its kind in America: Teen Challenge. Not only does Teen Challenge help our young people deal with their substance abuse, but it also gives our kids something to live for -- a relationship with God, a healthy self-esteem and a direction in their lives that finally leads somewhere. Ever since I endorsed Teen Challenge back in the 1970s, when I was governor of California, I've always been impressed with their work, their people and even their name. First of all, teens are a challenge but if you are a parent or a grandparent, you know that as well as I do. But secondly and more important, our teens need a challenge. A challenge to know who they are and where they are going. A challenge to meet the temptations of modern life with an inner strength and resolve that only a loving God can give. They also need the challenge of saying no' to drugs and yes' to all the good things in life that will help them meet their potential. Since Teen Challenge was founded in 1958, tens of thousands of young Americans have discovered there's more to life than drugs and alcohol. And right up to the present, our young people continue to hear the good news that they don't have to be addicts for life. But right now Teen Challenge needs your help and mine more than ever before. That's why I'm asking you to help this great organization help our kids. I speak from more than 20 years of knowledge of the organization when I tell you that the Teen Challenge program works -- it's effective -- it's literally changing lives of young Americans from every walk of life. The government can't do it alone no matter how hard it tries. It's going to take the all out effort of concerned citizens like you and me to help turn the tide of drug abuse among kids. And the good news is that together we can and will do it. But for Teen Challenge to help, we need your help now more than ever. A wise person once said that God's reward for a job well done is that He always gives us a bigger job to do.
